The MoU aimed to create digital soil mapping of the entire Marathwada region
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on February 16, 2023 between Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth (VNMKV) and ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS & LUP), Nagpur. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Indra Mani, Director of NBSS & LUP Dr. B.P.Bhaskar, Director of Research Dr. D.P. Waskar, and HoD (Dept. of Agril. Chemistry & Soil Sci.) Dr. Pravin Vaidya signed the MoU.
The MoU is aimed at the development of digital soil mapping of the whole Marathwada region of Maharashtra and the creation of a decision support system for land use planning and sustainable agriculture. The MoU facilitates the sharing of scientific expertise in remote sensing and GIS, soil survey, land use planning, soil site suitability, soil fertility, and site specific soil and nutrient management for sustainable agriculture in the region, which is beneficial to the farmers for proper selection of crops as per soil types. A long-term collaborative cutting-edge research programme will be undertaken to develop site-specific advisory, information and diagnostics for sustainable soil use and production that will benefit farmers. Research instrumentation facilities at both institutes will be made accessible to the faculty, scientists, and PG students.
The members of Executive Council of VNMKV viz., MLC Mr. Satish Chavan, MLC Mr. Rameshrao Karad, MLA Mr. Abhimanyu Pawar, MLA Dr. Rahul Patil, and senior officers were present on this occasion.
