Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani addressed the VCs Convention of IAUA held at Mathura

Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, VNMKV, Parbhani attended the 46th Annual Convention of Vice-Chancellors of Indian Agricultural Universities Association (IAUA) held during December 26th to 27th 2022 organized at U.P. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalay, Mathura (UP). The theme of the convention is ‘National Education Policy 2020 : Implementation in Agricultural Universities’. Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani addressed the Convention as a panelist.   

In his address Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani said that the coming year 2023 has been declared the International Millet Year by the UNO and VNMKV, Parbhani has developed many good varieties of sorghum and pearl millet. Parbhani Shakti is the Country’s first biofortified variety of sorghum has been developed by VNMKV in collaboration with ICRISAT, Hyderabad. 'Parbhani Shakti' variety is rich in zinc and iron content; similarly, a biofortified variety of pearl millet was also developed by the university. These varieties have a potential to decrease the malnutrition in women and child. The university is trying to produce quality seeds in large quantities to meet the demand of farmers through PPP. In order to increase the use of millets in human diets, university plans to create public awareness in 2023 through campaign. The university also emphasized on value addition of the millets. 

The Vice-Chancellors of Agricultural /  Horticultural / Animal Science Universities throughout the country attended the convention.
