Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, [09.01.2023]: A two-day brainstorming workshop on "Redefining plan type in pigeonpea and vigna pulses for Central and South India and product profile development" commenced with a grand inauguration by Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Indra Mani, at the FRS, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The event was graced by distinguished personalities, including Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, ADG Oilseeds and Pulses, Shri Anoop Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra, Dr. S. N. Puri, Former Vice-Chancellor, MPKV Rahuri, Dr. Nadarajan, Former Director, ICAR-IIPR, and Dr. Aditya Pratap, Principal Coordinator, AICRP Kharif Pulses.
The
workshop, scheduled for January 8-9, brought together experts and scientists
from renowned institutions such as ICRISAT, AICRP on Pigeonpea and Vigna crops,
BARC, and the private sector. The collaborative effort aims to redefine and
optimize the plan types of pigeonpea and vigna pulses, specifically tailored
for the agricultural landscapes of Central and South India.
During
the inaugural function, participants engaged in discussions on the latest
advancements in pulse farming, emphasizing the significance of product profile
development in enhancing crop yield and quality. The event also witnessed the
valuable insights of farmer representatives and mill owners who shared their
expectations regarding plant types for these crops. The second day of the
workshop, January 9th, will feature a Germplasm Exposure Visit at ARS Badnapur,
offering participants a practical understanding of pulse cultivation and
innovation. This visit is expected to provide a hands-on experience to further enrich
the knowledge shared during the workshop.
The initiative underscores the collaborative spirit among diverse stakeholders, fostering a comprehensive approach towards the development and enhancement of pigeonpea and vigna pulses in the region.
