India achieved the food self-sufficiency through farmers' dedication, government policies, & Agricultural Research ….. Hon'ble VC Dr. Indra Mani

Celebration of 75th Republic Day at VNMKV, Parbhani

In a significant development for the agricultural sector, India has achieved self-sufficiency in food production, with a remarkable contribution from the farming community. Today, the nation stands at the forefront of food security, and the credit for this accomplishment goes to the dedicated efforts of farmers, government policies, and agricultural research. These sentiments were echoed by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Indra Mani during the hoisting of the flag at the main campus of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani on 75th Republic Day.

 

Dr. Indra Mani conveyed his Republic Day wishes to all present, emphasizing the pivotal role of agricultural research in the country's agricultural development. He highlighted the importance of agricultural science and technology in ushering in a green revolution across the nation. The VNMKV has played a key role in developing high yielding varieties of soybean, pulses, oilseed crops, ultimately leading to increased production and fulfilling the demands of the farming community of the region. The varieties of soybean and pulse varieties have gained widespread popularity, not only in Marathwada but also in other regions of the country. Over 2000 acres of additional uncultivated land have been brought under cultivation, aiming to double the seed production of the university. The university's efforts in the field of oilseeds, pearl millet, and safflower through the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) have been recognized with the 'Best Research Centre' accolade by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The university has taken a major jump in digital farming technology.  The university has been honored with the International Green University Award. Prioritizing farmer outreach, the university initiated the 'Majha Ek Divasa Majhya Balirajasathi' program in September 2022, covering more than 350 villages to date. Additionally, the university has secured a Corporate Social Responsibility fund of 22.50 Cr for the capacity building of farmers from this different institutes.

 

Dr. D.P. Waskar, Director of Research, Dr. D.N. Gokhale, Director of Extension Education, Mr. P.K. Kale, Registrar, Mr. Pravin Nirmal, Controller, along with senior officers, faculty members, and students attended the function.
