Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani address the National Dialogue for Shaping the future of Indian Horticulture at New Delhi

New Delhi : An enlightening event, the National Dialogue for Shaping the Future of Indian Horticulture, took place on August 26, 2023, at the esteemed National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) in New Delhi. Jointly organized by the Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India (CHAI) and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), the event served as a pivotal platform for discussions and insights aimed at propelling the Indian horticulture sector forward.

Distinguished figures from academia, industry, and various segments of the horticulture realm gathered to exchange ideas, strategies, and knowledge for the advancement of this crucial sector. One of the esteemed speakers was Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of VNMKV, Parbhani, who addressed the attendees.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Indra Mani emphasized the integral role of engineering applications throughout the entire horticulture value chain, from orchard to the end consumer's fork. He shared his vision that the future of horticulture is inevitably becoming "engineering horticulture," underscoring the fusion of technology and traditional practices.

He explain the significance of drone technology in revolutionizing orchard management. He highlighted how drones are not only crucial for monitoring crop health but also for ensuring the precise and effective application of pesticides and nutrients. The use of drone technology, according to him, marks a vital turning point in modern horticulture practices, promising enhanced efficiency and sustainability. He talked about the use of robotics in grafting, nursing management, and harvesting operations. He informed the gathering about the various facilities available at VNMKV, Parbhani such as grafting robots and advanced onion silage for the benefits of the farmers on a custom hiring basis.

The National Dialogue witnessed vibrant discussions, robust debates, and an exchange of innovative ideas on how to shape the future of Indian horticulture. This convergence of expertise, initiated by the collaborative efforts of CHAI and NAAS, is poised to steer the horticulture sector onto a dynamic trajectory of growth and technological advancement.
