In a
significant initiative towards preserving India's rich mango biodiversity, a
Mango Germplasm Conservation Programme was inaugurated at Fruit Research
Station (FRS), Chatrapati Sambhajinagar of VNMKV. The auspicious event was
graced by the esteemed presence of Hon'ble Dr. Indra Mani, Hon'ble Dr. Sharad
Gadakh, and Respected Shri Dattaji Patharikar. Over 50 varieties of mango
germplasm, including rare cultivars like Kalapahad, Malgoba, Sindhu, Gulabkhas,
Anda, Pairi, Khobarya, Panchgarakalsh, Emarati, among others, are planted at
FRS Chatrapati Sambhajinagar. These varieties represent a diverse collection
aimed at safeguarding genetic diversity and promoting sustainable agriculture
practices. Hon'ble Dr. Indra Mani and Hon'ble Dr. Sharad Gadakh personally
undertook plantation activities and meticulously inspected each germplasm
variety. Emphasizing the importance of conservation, they urged the farming
community to actively participate in the propagation and cultivation of these
unique mango varieties. Dr. G. M. Waghmare, Dr. Kishor Zade, Dr. Ravi Nainwad,
and the dedicated team at FRS were instrumental in organizing the event and
ensuring the success of the conservation programme. Their efforts underscore a
commitment to agricultural heritage and ecological sustainability. The Mango
Germplasm Conservation Programme at FRS Chatrapati Sambhajinagar marks a
pivotal step towards preserving India's mango diversity for future generations
and promoting resilient agricultural practices nationwide.
